In Process Quality Assurance is well suited for EMATs. Here a friction weld is inspected
by EMAT. The inspection is performed dry to the finished product. Did not scratch or
effect the cosmetics of the finished product. The inspection could detect “Kissing Bonds”,
a tight contact with out metallurgical bond.

Spectrum Provides systems for your difficult NDE problems using EMATs, Electro Magnetic
Acoustic Transducers. The EMAT is an inductive transducer and is considearably different
than conventional piezo-electric transducers which are capacitive in nature. The unique
requirements of an EMAT require specialized electronics to achieve superior results. Sonic
Sensors has developed the necessary pulsers, receivers and signal processing to permit
the highly versatile EMAT to be easily applied to commercial applications. Sonic Sensors
EMAT Systems are engineered to be broad banded versatile instruments to address
numerous applications with a vast array of transducers.

In-Service Inspection Tools

A number of in service inspections for the Petrochemical Industry, Nuclear Industry, or Furnace inspections are available with EMATs.

This tool would inspect girth welds, long seams and find corrosion using EMAT
guided waves in buried tar coated pipe.

Small diameter tar coated pipes may also be inspected the tethered tool. Shown here is a tool for pitting, general corrosion and cracking.

The Portable Inspection System must be robust and operable in a variety of nasty environments.
